You will stitch a stunning teardrop-shaped piece using a paper pattern. The completed top will be embellished with felt and optional stamped motifs with a facing instead of a binding. Macky will also demonstrate her technique for applying facings to square and rectangular quilts.
Student Requirements:
The compulsory kit contains paper patterns; 50 cm square of placemat batting; 50cm square of interfacing; use of paints and stamps.
- Basic Sewing Supplies
- Fabric for the top:
o 12cm square of fabric for the centre circle
o 20cm square of felt for the central motif
o Fabric selection for the 31 “rays”. The top strip is from a 10-inch x 3-inch strip. The other rays are paired in graded colours using strips between 1.5 inches and 6 – 10 inches long. You decide how many different fabrics you want for the rays.
- Fabric for the back: Fat quarter of backing fabric
- Machine quilting thread
- 30cm square of fusible web
- 150cm bias strip (2” wide) for the front border (it may be joined)
- 150cm bias strip (2 ½” wide) for back facing (it may be joined)
- Machine thread to match fabric choices
- Cutting mat and rotary cutter with a new blade
- Quilt ruler
- Sewing Machine in good working order;
o Quarter-inchch presser foot
o Open toe appliqué presser foot if you have one
- Extension cord, 15 amp plug or adaptor, surge protector plug
