Die klas is vir kwilters wat ‘n basiese kennis van vryhandkwiltwerk (free motion quilting - FMQ) en ‘n basiese kennis van liniaalwerk het.  Leer hoe om randstroke (borders), blokke en tussenstroke (sashing) met oorspronklike liniaalkwiltontwerpe te vul.  Verdeel groot, oop spasies op die kwilt met liniaalwerk.  Gebruik ander kwilttegnieke om die liniaalwerk aan te vul.  Stik ‘n liniaalvoorbeeldkwilt (sampler) met al hierdie tegnieke.

Hierdie werkswinkel word in hoofsaaklik in Afrikaans aangebied, maar verduidelikings sal in Engels herhaal word indien nodig / This workshop is presented primarily in Afrikaans, but explanations will be repeated in English if required.

Student Requirements:

The compulsory kit contains a workshop handout.

• Basic Sewing Supplies
• Practice Blocks:
  o 5 x squares of fabric for the top = 12” x12”
  o 5 squares of batting = 16” x 16”
  o 5 squares of fabric for the backing = 16” x 16”
  Use Calico or Sheeting for the top and backing and thin Loomtex 100g for the batting. If you are not sure about the batting or how to do a quilt sandwich, bring what you have to class and we can discuss it.
• Polyester machine embroidery thread like Glide, Isacord or Marathon – 3 different colours
• Bobbins wound with Bobbin Thread
• Quilting gloves
• Scissors
• Marking tools for dark and light fabric like chalk pens, water erasable blue pens or Purple Air Erasable pen
• Quilt Rulers:
  o Straight Line ¼”-thick Ruler i.e. Handi Quilter Versa Tool Ruler
  o Curved ¼”-thick ruler i.e. Handi Quilter Arc B ruler (optional)
  o Half Circles ¼”-thick ruler i.e. Handi Quilter Half Circles (optional)
  o Please bring any quilting rulers you already own to class
• Ruler or tape measure for measuring purposes
• Lots of paper and pencil for drawing
• Whiteboard marker
• A4 Plastic sleeve
• Chair cushion
• Thread stand (optional)
• Machine needles
• Sewing Machine in good working order;
  o Manual,
  o Extension table,
  o Ruler presser foot for the domestic machine,
  o Free motion or darning presser foot,
  o walking foot (optional)
• Extension cord, 15 amp plug or adaptor, surge protector plug
