While learning hand-appliquéd Clamshells, you will also be able to design a small quilt. The design elements to be considered are colour and fabrics, shape and placement of clamshells. Big stitch quilting and embroidery stitches will complete the quilt. Enjoy a relaxed slow stitching workshop.
Student Requirements:
- Basic Sewing Supplies
- Fabric for the top:
o Background fabric 40”x14” (102cmx36cm)
o Backing and Batting 42”x16” (107cmx41cm)
o Clamshell fabric in your choice of colour and design e.g., solids, geometric, prints
- Cut and sandwich a 10” square for a practice sample
- Thread to match clamshell fabric ( neutral usually matches most fabrics)
- Perle cotton #8 for big stitch quilting in the colour of your choice
- Embroidery needles #10 and #7 or #5
- Thimble
- Needle grabber (optional)
- Scissors:
o Large fabric scissors and paper scissors
o Small embroidery scissors
- Marking pen
- Safety pins/basting thread for sandwiching the quilt
- 12”x6” quilter’s ruler
- Small 12”x18” mat
- Hera marker
- Marking pen (chalk or Frixion pen) with fine tip
- Liquid spray starch
- Small paint brush
- Prym aqua glue marker
- Notebook and pen/pencil
