An alternative new fun way of doing appliqué! This class is specially designed for the student who wants to expand their knowledge and dare to use alternative ways of making textile art. This technique will include free-motion machine embroidery and hand embroidery to create a textile beetroot that can be used to frame, use as part of a quilt, a bag or be given as a gift.

Student Requirements:
The compulsory kit contains an A3 design of beetroot, carrot and onion; an A3 reverse design of a beetroot; a booklet with relevant information; uncarded silk yarn; 100 grams of silk yarn; silk waste.
- Basic Sewing Supplies
- Fabric (for a 50 cm by 50 cm Cushion/Quilt):
- 1 by 50 cm x 50cm Background fabric – keeping in mind what you intend to use it (cushion, frame, quilt etc.) I prefer to use linen
- 5 by 25 cm x 25 cm pieces of Red/Purple/Dark pink fabric for the Beetroot
- 5 by 20 cm x 20cm pieces of Red/Purple/Dark Pink fabric in different textures eg. silk, velvet, and linen. To be used on top of the Beetroot, as a second layer.
- 5 by 10 cm x 10 cm pieces of an assortment of different green fabrics to be used for the Beetroot leaves
- 5 by 10 cm x 10 cm pieces of an assortment of different green fabrics in different textures eg silk, velvet, linen. To be used on top of the leaves, as a second layer
- 30 cm x 35 cm Dark Green Tulle
- 25 cm x 25 cm Dark pink or red Tulle
- 50 cm x 50 cm Batting
- 50 cm x 50 cm Appliqué paper / Bondiweb
- Fabric and Paper Scissors
- Pins
- Machine embroidering thread in Black, Pink and Green.
- Hand embroidery threads in Greens, Dark Purples, Pinks and Reds.
- Hand embroidery needles
- Pencil
- Sewing Machine in good working order with free motion/darning sewing foot
- Extension cord, 15 amp plug or adaptor
NOTE: A basic knowledge of free motion machine embroidery will come in handy
