The speed of life can be overwhelming, but taking a calmer, more measured approach to the creative process can help you find new joy in the experience of making.  We will take our inspiration from textile traditions such as American quilting, Kantha techniques, mending, darning and Boro work (slow stitching).  So let’s begin (slowly) to create your unique stitch journal!

Student Requirements:

The compulsory kit contains a booklet with relevant information; linen samples

• Basic Sewing Supplies
• Fabric: 2 meters Linen or cotton, the colour of your choice. The cloth needs to be strong enough to accept different types of thread and dense stitching. See how easy it is to pass your threaded needle through; if it is a struggle consider using something else. (Traditionally colours used are black, white, beige, grey, soft moss green or soft blue.
• 2 meters soft thin batting
• Hand sewing and embroidery needles
• A large selection of threads and yarns. Different weights and fibres
• Embroidery hoop. (if you prefer to work with one.)
• A marking tool (water-soluble pen, chalk)
• Scissors for cutting fabric
• Pins
