Students will be taught the unique construction of Kawandi and Godhari quilts, as well as the sewing methods applied.  The students will make a 50 cm x 50 cm quilt or cushion cover.  Work will be done entirely by hand.  Elaine will also fill you in on the fascinating history of these quilts and the women who make these wonderful quilts by hand.

Student Requirements:

• Basic Sewing Supplies
• Fabric:
  • 50 x 50 cm cotton fabric for lining;
  • 50 x 50 cm thin batting;
  • A bag full of solid colour fabrics (cotton, silk, poly-cottons) off-cuts
• Fabric Scissors
• Pins
• Embroidery thread / Crochet white thread
• Hand sewing needles:
  • Chenille nr.6,
  • Doll-making long needles. Elaine found SewMate Craft Doll Needle the nearest to those she saw women used to make Godharis in India
